Guerlain Les Elixirs Charnels Gourmand Coquin is My Spirit Animal

Hello Readers,

I’m at home with migraine and allergies today so I figured that I would catch up on my blog since when I lie down, I feel like my head is in a vice grip.  So let’s talk about happy things.  Pleasant things. Mature things.  Or what my friend Kara calls “Grown woman things.”

Once you hit about 30, you just reach a point where you want a certain degree of stability in all areas of your life.   You know what you like and what you don’t like.  You start cementing your sense of self and style.  You stop chasing after things that do not and cannot work for you.  You just start being the real you.

So I have found my signature scent.  My mom has a signature scent: Yves Saint Laurent Opium.  My aunt’s scent is Boucheron Boucheron.  I can smell either of those perfumes and immediately think of them.  My scent is Guerlain Les Elixirs Charnels Gourmand Coquin.

How did I find it?  Kara and I went to the Spring Nordstrom Trend Show and we stopped by the Guerlain counter because when the representative came on stage to talk about all of the wonderful (and hard to find) perfumes that had; we couldn’t help but notice how she was so chic and womanly.

So when we sat down with the representative, she felt the temperature of my neck and took a whiff of my wrist (all I had on was fairly scentless body lotion) and then tells me a slight French accent that I have a warm, natural musky scent (Um, yay, I guess).  Then she sprays two colognes on me, one on each forearm.   I was blown away by Gourmand Coquin.  I can’t even remember the name of the other scent, that’s how awesome this scent is.  I bought it right then.

Gourmand Coquin is an Oriental Vanilla fragrance; like 99% of the other perfumes that I’ve ever owned. According to Fragrantica, the notes include chocolate, vanilla, rum, rose, black pepper, and smokey tea. Let’s break those notes down, shall we?

  • Chocolate – my African DNA
  • Vanilla – my European DNA
  • Rum – my favorite liquor
  • Tea – I like tea
  • Black pepper – I’m spicy
  • Rose – Would you not pick me from the garden to be yours?

In short, Gourmand Coquin is my spirit animal.  I was meant to wear this scent and to smell like a rum chocolate vanilla milkshake.
